Jackie - Oh so fine

Viimeisimmällä kirjastokäynnillä löysin hyllystä mahtavan kirjan - Kuuluisat vintagemekot. Pakkohan se oli heti lainata. Kotona pikaisella selauksella tulin siihen tulokseen, että minun mekkoni on joko Jackie, Audrey tai Twiggy. Muutenkin tyylillisesti taidan olla jämähtänyt tuohon 60-lukuun, ainakin mitä mekkoihin ja takkeihin tulee. Päädyin lopulta Jackieen, koska ostin torstaina siihen sopivan kankaankin.

Last visit to the library was a good one. I found a nice book full of nice dresses - Famous Frocks. I just had to have it. Back home a quick browse made it pretty clear that I'm stuck in the 60's. It was either Jackie, Audrey or Twiggy for me and as I found the perfect fabric on thursday, I ended up with Jackie.

Jackie on ollut aina yksi suosikeistani mitä tulee tyyliin. Yksinkertaista ja kaunista.

Tällä kertaa tein jopa kokeiluversion, mitä en yleensä koskaan tee. Pitäisi kai, kun oma vartalo ei ole millään tavalla yhtä kokoa

This time I even made a trial version from an old sheet and that is something I usually don't do. Maybe I should, as my body is clearly not just one size.

Kokeiluversio on hyvä. Joskin laatikoista ei sattunut löytymään 60cm piilovetoketjua, itse asiassa, ei löytynyt minkään mittaista piiloketjua. Joten tein kokeiluversion metriketjulla. No sehän tökötti selässä todella selvästi, joten jäin miettimään lopulliseen versioon toista ratkaisua.
Kun ketjun ompelun aika tuli, tajusin ettei mekko tulisi menemään kiinni, jos laitan takasaumaan ketjun vaatimat saumavarat. No, kokeillaan pienemmillä varoilla, totesin. Ompelin koko sauman kiinni ja päätin testata josko se menisi päälle niinkin. Ja sehän meni! En siis tarvinnut ketjua ollenkaan ja mikä parasta, ei tarvinnut odottaa maanantaihin asti, että olisin kunnon ketjun siihen saanut.

The trial version was just fine. Only problem was that I didn't have 60cm invisible zipper in hand. Actually I had no invisible zippers at all. So I made it with basic zip instead.
Well, that was a mistake - It sure looked like I was about to burst out of the dress, so I had to think of other options for the final cut.
When the time came to sew the zipper in place, I realised I didn't enough  seam allowence in the back. Let's try with smaller ones, I thought. I stiched the whole seam and decided to try if it would fit that way. And it did! Thankfully, because I hate sewing those invisble zippers and I didn't want to wait 'till monday to finish it.

Little bit grandma (back to the drawing board I think)

Aiemmin keväällä ostin impulssiostoksena kirkkaanpunaiset housut. Mielessäni kyti silloin suuri visio housuista yhdistettynä kaapista löytyvään kankaaseen. Kului kuukausi jos toinenkin ja nyt sain sen vihdoin aikaiseksi.

I went a little bit crazy in the spring an bought myself a pair of bright red trousers. I bought them with a great vision in my mind. I knew I had to have them to match one fabric from my stash. It took a month and a few more, but now I've done it.

Kuten sanoin, visio oli suuri. Sinä oli jotain marimekkomaista, jotain 60-lukuista ja niin minua.

My vision was great. It had something 60's in it, something Marimekko-like, and so me.

Se on edelleen kaikkia niitä, mutta se on myös mummomaista - sitä sen ei pitänyt olla.

Hihat ovat joko liian pitkät, tai liian lyhyet ja se yhdistyy omassa päässäni mummoihin. Miehen mielestä siinä ei ole mummoa. Ehkä se johtuu siitä, ettei sillä ole ollut mummoa joka olisi pitänyt vastaavia paitoja. Minulla oli.

Se on silti kiva ja pienellä kaavan muokkauksella siitä seuraavasta tulee vielä parempi. Tällä hetkellä ylin nappi ei mene kunnolla kiinni pienestä mittavirheestä johtuen. Ja lisää väljyyttää voisi tehdä takakappaleeseen laskostamalla.

Takaisin sorvin ääreen siis. Ja kangaskauppaan, koska tämä kangas loppui tähän.

It's still all of those, but there's also some grandma in it - that's something I didn't have in my vision.

The sleeves are either too long or too short and that's what makes it "grandma" in my mind. Hubby said that he can't find the granny in it. Maybe it's because he hasn't had a grandma who wore these kind of shirts. I had.

It's still fun and with little modification the next one will be even more fun. Right now the top button doesn't close due to a measuring error I made. And I think there could more ease in the back too.

Back to the drawing board. And fabric store.
